This Is ME strives to bring our members access to diverse people and resources. Please consider contributing your time, talent, dollars, or other resources to help This Is ME achieve its goal.

Volunteer — This Is ME owes its success to the dedication and diverse talents of its volunteers. We would benefit greatly from having you on our volunteer team, too! We have plenty of volunteer opportunities ranging from on-going to one-time-only and from administrative to direct programming. To find out more about volunteering with This Is ME, please contact us.

The following opportunities are available as of June, 2011. Please note that these are unpaid volunteer opportunities. This Is ME does not have any paid positions available.

Volunteer position:

PR/Communications Assistant

Duties:

PR/Communication role involving a number of related tasks:

  • Create a list of PR contacts; including newspaper contacts and bloggers who report on girl-related  topics (look through local newspapers, search online), legislators who are interested in what we’re doing (visit legislator offices)
  • Create and maintain ongoing relationships with these PR contacts
  • Find information to post on our blog and Facebook page

Skills needed:

Networking skills, Computer skills, Social media know-how

Time involved:

First month: 8 to 10 hours per week
Ongoing: 3 hours per week

Timeline:

Can be started at any time

How/where:

Meetings with our Director of Marketing throughout the first month, then work can be completed virtually.

Volunteer position:

Outreach Assistant

Duties:

Post flyers and introduce This Is ME to businesses in Logan Square for our programs or special events

Skills needed:

Networking, promoting This Is ME among Logan Square organizations, be able to get around Logan Square by foot or car

Time involved:

Half day each time

Timeline:

4 to 5 times a year

How/where work can be done:

Arrange a pickup of the flyers with our Director of Marketing
Flyers distributed throughout Logan Square

Volunteer position:

Office Assistant

Duties:

Assisting in-office with the following types of tasks:

  • Create and send thank you letters
  • Craft responses to people and entities associated with the organization
  • Copy and file documentation
  • Prepare financial transactions
  • Handle other miscellaneous tasks that can be completed in-office

Skills needed:

Computer skills; Attention to detail; Resourceful

Time involved:

4 hours a month

Timeline:

2 hours every other Monday

How/where work can be done:

In the home office of the Executive Director in Portage Park on the Northwest side of Chicago

    • White Computer Paper

    • Colored Paper (plain on both sides)

    • Arts and Crafts Supplies, specifically craft glue, scissors, gel or glitter pens, glue sticks, etc.

    • Scrap-Booking Materials

    • Books about girls or topics that are important to girls

    • Postage Stamps
